My Garage Door Won’t Open
Is Your Garage Door Stuck?
Your garage door could have trouble opening for a number of reasons, including broken springs and snapped cables. We know how inconvenient a malfunctioning garage door can be.
When you call Precision, our technicians arrive in fully-stocked trucks so that most repairs can be completed in one visit.
What to Do When Your Garage Door Won’t Open
If your garage door won’t open and you need to get your vehicle out, you can use the emergency release cord to open the door manually. Please note that the emergency release should only be used when the door is in the closed position.
What to Check First
- Be sure the garage door isn’t locked (especially if you use a manual slide lock)
- Try replacing the batteries in your remote
- Make sure the opener is receiving power correctly
- If you’ve recently used the emergency release cord, be sure the trolley was re-engaged
- Be sure the garage door tracks are free of loose screws, twigs, and other debris
- Remove any obstruction that may be blocking your safety sensors
When to Call the Pros
- The garage door won’t open because the springs are broken (you’ll probably hear this if you’re home when it happens)
- The cables are loose or broken
- The garage door track is warped or broken, or the door has come off the track completely
- Your garage door opener needs to be repaired or replaced
- Your garage door sensors need to be recalibrated
- The garage door rollers are cracked or broken
If your garage door was recently involved in an accident (even a minor one) and now won’t open, it’s important to call Precision right away. Your door may have damage that isn’t obvious, and it can impact the door’s other components if use continues.
What If It’s the Opener?
If your garage door won’t open because of your garage door opener, we can help with that too!
You may notice that the door is moving more slowly than usual, the opener is making an excessive amount of noise (especially if it’s a belt drive opener, which sould be ultra-quiet), or the opener is only working intermittently.
These are a few of the common indicators that your garage door opener may be failing.
